OUR STORY, MISSION, & PURPOSE
Our Mission
The Vermont Outdoor Business Alliance is a statewide non-profit organization of outdoor recreation businesses established in 2018
VOBA educates Vermonters on outdoor recreation and educates businesses on business development, collaboration initiatives, and outdoor recreation policy.
VOBA and its members are dedicated to conservation of the natural landscape, stewardship of recreation infrastructure, and diversity, equity, and inclusion in work spaces and outdoor places.
Our Story
In 2017, Governor Phil Scott established the Vermont Outdoor Recreation Economic Collaborative (VOREC), a state program administered by the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation and the Agency of Commerce and Community Development.
The statewide attention spurred outdoor industry leaders to establish the Vermont Outdoor Business Alliance (VOBA) in 2018 as a sector-led organization working alongside VOREC to bolster the economic opportunities outdoor recreation has historically provided the Green Mountain State.
VOBA's economic impact from strengthening, expanding, attracting, and retaining outdoor economy businesses is coupled with social impact in the areas of climate resilience and equity.

Move Forward Together Vermont
In 2024, VOBA participated in the statewide planning process, Move Forward Together Vermont (MFTV), administered by the Vermont Outdoor Recreation Economic Collaborative (VOREC), to identify a 5-year vision for Vermont’s outdoor economy.
